As a first time mother, I’m learning new things every day. Raising children and raising them well, is serious business that requires hard work and consistency. As a mama to a little boy, I’ve started to put together a list of things I want him to learn. I’m sure this list will grow, but these are the things I’d like to focus on for now. I think they are great reminders for us all!

“It’s not what you do for your children, but what you teach them to do for themselves, that will make them successful human beings.” ~ Ann Landers

  1. Use your head but speak from your heart.
  2. Make time for your family.
  3. Don’t play with other people’s feelings.

  1. Be kind to animals.
  2. Be humble.
  3. Learn to dance.

  1. There’s something to be learned from everyone you meet.
  2. Take care of your body.
  3. Life is too short to be unhappy.

  1. Stand up for the little guy.
  2. Be the person people can trust.
  3. Never drink and drive.

  1. Do what you love.
  2. Ask your future wife’s fathers permission before you propose to her.

  1. Table manners are here for a reason. Use them.
  2. Learn to cook.
  3. Being a gentleman will never go out of fashion.

  1. Be kind to everyone you meet.
  2. Don’t make a big decision in the heat of the moment.
  3. Tell the truth.

  1. Stand up for what you believe in.
  2. Always think twice before you hit “send” on your cell phone, iPad, tablet, or computer.
  3. Make your bed every morning.

  1. Pain has a beginning, middle, and an end. Remember this when you are hurt.
  2. You’re not the centre of the world. Yes, you are the centre of MY world, but not everyone’s. Don’t be selfish. And don’t act entitled.
  3. Don’t be late. Value both yours as well as another individual’s time and energy.

  1. Don’t be the loudest guy in the room.
  2. Greet people with a firm handshake.
  3. The best things in life aren’t always free, but they are definitely better when shared.
  4. Always be thankful for the place you’re at in life. Embrace the chaos that comes with each new moment and milestone. You’ve got this little man!
